Keyboard shortcut for Search

I'm dog tired of two-click searching.
- maneuver mouse to this odd LHS mid-page location
- click search
Could we have a keyboard shortcut for search?
The shortcut should put my cursor into an active search text box

How about using the / key as does Google? Just a tap of the / key and the search drawer opens with the cursor focused in the search text box!
